A2RL launches new era of autonomous motorsport in Abu Dhabi
After years of development, A2RL is holding its first race at Abu Dhabi’s legendary Yas Marina circuit on 27 April. The race aims to introduce a new type of motorsport and kickstart a new wave of autonomous technology development. Teams of engineers, scientists, and former Formula 1 driver Daniil Kvyat are working together to create cutting-edge autonomous race cars. The eight teams from seven countries start with the same car – a Dallara chassis with a 550hp 2.0-litre turbocharged Honda motor. The cars, now named EVA24, are equipped with advanced technology like GPS, sensors, and cameras, which will determine the winner based on programming. A2RL’s first race will feature both AI vs. Human showdown and a main event with eight teams competing for a $2.25million prize pot. The event will also include a Fanzone with various activities for visitors and a STEM competition for younger race fans. A2RL’s goal is to promote safety, collaboration, and technological advancement in the field of autonomous driving technology.
