Haas has requested written clarification from the FIA regarding the situation where Oliver Bearman was disqualified from qualifying for the Formula 1 Emilia Romagna GP in the first session due to a red-flag incident involving Franco Colapinto.
Despite Bearman setting a lap time that seemed to secure him a spot in Q2, it was invalidated due to the red flag being displayed following Colapinto’s crash.
Haas disagreed with the decision and believed Bearman’s lap should have been allowed to stand as he had crossed the line before the red flag was shown.
Following discussions with the FIA, Haas demanded a thorough explanation of the decision-making process and inquired about potential measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Both TV footage and live timing data confirmed that Bearman had completed his lap before the red flag, leading to frustration and disappointment from the driver for the unfair disqualification.
Bearman criticized the FIA’s decision as unjust and expressed disappointment in the lack of willingness to rectify a mistake, emphasizing the need for more transparency and fairness in such situations.
