What Sauber sees in its ’inside-out, back-to-front’ pull-rod F1 suspension
Sauber has made extensive changes to its 2024 C44 design, including a shift to a pull-rod front suspension layout, similar to the ones used by Red Bull and McLaren. This design change offers significant aerodynamic advantages, specifically in managing the front tire wake and generating complex functions around the tire. However, from a mechanical perspective, it is not an ideal solution due to the difficult accessibility of components. Sauber technical director James Key believes that the aerodynamic gains outweigh the mechanical disadvantages and sees it as the right move to make. He expects other teams to follow suit and adopt the pull-rod front suspension layout based on its success with Red Bull and McLaren.
