Why F1 drivers were frustrated with FIA, Pirelli over Qatar safety changes
Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz explained why F1 drivers were frustrated with the communication regarding the tyre issues at the Qatar Grand Prix. Safety measures were implemented after concerns raised by Pirelli about separation in the tyre sidewalls. Changes to track limits were made and an 18-lap tyre life was mandated for the race. However, drivers were unhappy with the information provided on Saturday and expressed their concerns in a meeting organized by the Grand Prix Drivers’ Association. Sainz criticized the delay in addressing the problematic kerbs and the lack of direct communication with the drivers regarding the track limits and tyre delamination. The drivers expect better collaboration and proper consideration of their input in matters of safety.
