The weight of F1 cars has dramatically increased in recent years – Oscar Piastri is hoping to see the number trend the other way.
Oscar Piastri expressed his wish for Formula 1 to address the weight of the current cars and reduce it.
Although F1 cars have been getting heavier over the years, this year’s cars were 30 kilograms lighter than their 2025 counterparts.
Despite this reduction, they still weigh a minimum of 768kg, which is 77kg heavier than the 2014 turbo-hybrid cars.
Drivers have been vocal about the increasing weight affecting car handling, especially in low-speed corners.
Piastri suggested a significant weight reduction of 50+ kilograms would make a noticeable difference, aiming to bring the figure down to the 600s.
While acknowledging the current cars can still be enjoyable to drive, he highlighted the need for simplifying the engines to reduce weight further.
