Oscar Piastri has made some mixed starts this season, although is certain that McLaren’s are overall better than Ferrari’s.
Oscar Piastri responded to the widespread belief that Ferrari has the best starts on the grid by stating that McLaren’s starts “have been better.” He qualified fourth for the Sprint at the Canadian Grand Prix, three tenths behind George Russell. McLaren and Ferrari are closely matched in Montreal, with Lando Norris third and the Ferraris in fifth and sixth. Mercedes and McLaren have introduced significant upgrades in Canada, with Piastri acknowledging Mercedes’ strength. Despite new start procedures and challenges with the power unit regulations, Ferrari has maintained strong starts throughout the season. Piastri believes McLaren’s starts are better than Ferrari’s and is confident in their performance. He anticipates Mercedes becoming competitive soon but will continue to maximize their advantage in the meantime.
