Lewis Hamilton recently shared how he urged Pirelli to try out tyre blankets on full wet tires during a challenging tyre test at Fiorano.
Hamilton’s two-day testing session at Ferrari’s home track in April was part of Pirelli’s testing program, where teams are hired to run specific tests outlined by Pirelli without testing upgrades.
In the tire test, Hamilton suggested using tyre blankets on full wet tires, despite the ban on blankets in 2023 due to sustainability concerns.
Reflecting on the test, Hamilton described it as “painful” with 300 laps completed over the two days.
Hamilton also pointed out that getting the blankets back on the extreme wet tires in slippery conditions significantly improved performance based on his feedback.
