Fiery Grosjean crash has led to harsher driving conditions – GPDA chief
Chairman of the Grand Prix Drivers’ Association and former F1 driver Alex Wurz has highlighted that safety measures implemented after Romain Grosjean’s crash have resulted in harsher driving conditions for drivers. The Qatar Grand Prix has sparked a debate on extreme climactic conditions, as several drivers struggled to finish the race due to intense heat and humidity. Some drivers experienced issues such as dehydration and vomiting during the race. The location of certain components near the cockpit, such as the power unit and hydraulic lines, contributed to the elevated temperatures. Wurz suggested solutions such as cooling seats and better insulation or air cooling for hot electrical boxes to mitigate these heat-related problems. Additionally, he proposed establishing limits on the heat drivers are exposed to, as the driver’s well-being is a crucial aspect of performance. The introduction of improved fireproof gear has also added to the heat challenge faced by drivers.
