Rising Star Felipe Drugovich Poised for F1 Debut, Steps in for Lance Stroll at Le Mans

Felipe Drugovich stated that his priority has always been Formula 1, so he would be willing to miss his Le Mans 24 Hours entry with Cadillac in order to fill in for the injured Lance Stroll at the Canadian Grand Prix. Stroll had to withdraw from the Spanish GP due to pain in his right hand and wrist that he broke in a cycling accident during pre-season training in 2023. Despite Aston Martin not being able to field a replacement driver according to F1 rules, Drugovich, the team’s reserve driver, was unable to step in for Stroll at the Barcelona race, where only Fernando Alonso raced for the team. With Stroll’s recovery period unknown, there is uncertainty if he will be fit for the Canadian Grand Prix on 13-15 June. Drugovich was originally scheduled to race at Le Mans alongside Jack Aitken and Frederik Vesti, but he might put that aside to drive for Aston Martin in Canada. The team has other reserve drivers like Stoffel Vandoorne and Jak Crawford, with the possibility of seeking services from Mercedes reserve driver Valtteri Bottas for the Canadian GP if needed.
