Isack Hadjar has been given a three-place grid penalty for impeding Carlos Sainz during qualifying for the Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix. The miscommunication between Hadjar and his Racing Bulls team resulted in Sainz being blocked at Turn 6 during his hot lap, leading to his elimination in 17th place. Despite Hadjar’s initial plea of innocence, he will now start the race in 12th position as a result of the penalty. The stewarding document confirmed the incident and explained the rationale behind the decision to drop Hadjar out of the top 10 on the grid. It was concluded that Hadjar’s late attempt to move off the racing line was insufficient in avoiding impeding Sainz, as the team’s miscommunication played a role in the incident. Additionally, Carlos Sainz will now start 16th after Yuki Tsunoda’s 10-place grid penalty.
