IndyCar Portland: Graham Rahal takes pole, Newgarden crashes
Rahal set the fastest lap time of 58.3195s and secured the pole position at the 1.964-mile road course, making it his second pole of the season. He achieved this with the primary, black sidewall tires, while others used the alternate, red sidewall tires. Scott McLaughlin from Team Penske qualified second, followed by Colton Herta, Scott Dixon, and Alex Palou from Chip Ganassi Racing. Pato O’Ward from Arrow McLaren closed out the top six. Josef Newgarden crashed early in the session, ending his qualifying effort and forcing him to start 12th. Other drivers who failed to advance included Will Power, Callum Ilott, Alexander Rossi, Marcus Ericsson, and Felix Rosenqvist.
