The FIA has announced that its ADUO regulations, aimed at lagging power unit manufacturers, will commence after the F1 Canadian GP weekend.
The FIA announced the commencement of the ADUO regulations after the Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix weekend to address lagging power unit manufacturers.
The 2026 season introduced a new hybrid 50-50 power unit era in F1, creating a significant gap between engine manufacturers in terms of performance.
The ADUO scheme aims to provide Additional Development and Upgrade Opportunities to manufacturers struggling with their power units.
Initially set for the Miami GP, the ADUO activation was delayed due to race cancellations in Saudi Arabia and Bahrain.
The scheme will now begin after the sixth race at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, with manufacturers like Audi and Honda potentially benefitting from it.
Engine manufacturers with a performance index 2%-4% below the best-performing engine are eligible for ADUO, allowing them to develop their engines beyond existing restrictions.
