Liam Lawson called his first Formula 1 grand prix “sketchy” but he earned praise from Christian Horner.
The Red Bull junior driver, Liam Lawson, made his debut in the AlphaTauri team during the F1 Dutch Grand Prix after Daniel Ricciardo’s injury. Despite challenging weather conditions, Lawson finished 13th in the race, receiving a time penalty for impeding in the pitlane. He expressed that the conditions were unpredictable and mentioned the difficulty of learning in a new car. Lawson stated that he felt more comfortable on the soft and intermediate tires and considered the experience a good learning opportunity. Red Bull team principal, Christian Horner, praised Lawson’s performance, highlighting his overtaking of Max Verstappen and his ability to adapt to the difficult circumstances. Lawson is expected to participate in the next race in Monza and possibly in Singapore as well as Ricciardo recovers.
