McLaren’s Oscar Piastri clarified his radio message after the Austrian Grand Prix, expressing frustration towards Alpine for perceived past mistreatment, which gained media attention.
Piastri referred to the situation in 2022 when Alpine announced him as Fernando Alonso’s replacement without his consent after Alonso’s departure to Aston Martin.
In response, Piastri denied any agreement with Alpine for the 2023 season, emphasizing the lack of a signed contract.
Despite the recent incident, Piastri stated that he hasn’t dwelled on the possibility of a different career path had he chosen Alpine before, focusing on McLaren’s current success.
Piastri faced on-track challenges during the Grand Prix, but McLaren’s improved performance has propelled him to the top of the drivers’ standings with a 15-point lead over teammate Lando Norris.
