Slippery Slope: Hendrick Motorsports Faces Penalty Over Chase Elliott’s NASCAR Xfinity Car Violation

After a triple-header weekend at Pocono Raceway, NASCAR decided to take the No. 9 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet of Chase Elliott and the No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota of Christopher back to the R&D Center for further inspection. The No. 17 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet that raced in the NASCAR Xfinity Series was found to have violated rules during the race on Saturday, resulting in an L1 penalty being issued to the team. This penalty included a loss of 40 owner points, ten playoff points, a $40,000 fine, and a three-race suspension for crew chief Adam Wall.

Hendrick Motorsports, the team behind the No. 17, have entered the car in ten races so far this year with a variety of drivers, including Kyle Larson and William Byron, who have each secured a win. Despite the penalties, the team will not be appealing the decision made by NASCAR, accepting the consequences imposed. The No. 16 Kaulig Racing Chevrolet of Christian Eckes, which also underwent inspection, did not face any issues, ensuring a clean record for the team in this week’s penalty report.
