McLaren team principal Andrea Stella felt Oscar Piastri’s 10-second penalty at the British Grand Prix was “very harsh.” Piastri slowed abruptly on the straight, causing Max Verstappen to take evasive action, which led to the penalty. Stella believed mitigating circumstances were not considered by the stewards. Verstappen also thought the penalty was “extreme.” Despite winning with Lando Norris, McLaren still wants to discuss the incident with the FIA and stewards for further clarification. Stella hopes for a better interpretation in similar situations in the future.
