Aleix Espargaro expected to walk away from MotoGP sooner rather than later – but suddenly feels reinvigorated, also thanks to his friendship with a couple of younger riders
Aprilia MotoGP racer Aleix Espargaro has revealed that his experience during the overseas leg of the 2023 championship has caused him to reconsider his future in MotoGP. Initially planning to retire in 2024, Espargaro’s new strategy for the overseas races has reignited his passion for the sport, potentially extending his career. With four top-10 finishes in six races, he currently sits sixth in the championship and is the leading Aprilia rider. Espargaro’s decision to base himself in Bali and adopt a more relaxed approach to travel, spending time with his family and MotoGP rivals, has proven successful. He now believes that by maintaining this approach and with the support of the Aprilia team, he may continue racing for a longer period of time.
