Kimi Antonelli has matched Nico Rosberg’s start to the 2016 F1 season through four rounds, but whilst the former Mercedes driver won that title, history has not been as promising since.
Kimi Antonelli has had an outstanding start to his Formula 1 season, surprising many who expected Mercedes’ driver lineup to be different in 2026.
At only 19 years old, Antonelli leads the F1 drivers’ championship, reaching triple-digit points in just four races, a rare feat showcasing his exceptional beginning-of-season form.
Initially seen as talented but inexperienced compared to his teammate George Russell, Antonelli’s performance has surpassed expectations, with impressive pole positions and victories solidifying his position at the top.
Despite early races seeming to favor Russell, Antonelli’s dominance began in Shanghai, where he claimed three pole positions and victories, establishing himself as a formidable contender.
While a time penalty dropped him to sixth in the Miami sprint, Antonelli’s achievement of becoming the youngest driver to top the standings with 100 points after four rounds sets him apart from previous F1 leaders.
Having surpassed notable champions like Vettel, Hamilton, and Verstappen in early-season points accumulation, Antonelli’s success represents a significant milestone in F1 history.
