Mastering the Straight Mode: A Deep Dive into F1’s Strategic Racing Techniques

Find out what ‘straight mode’ means in F1 as the new term is explained.

‘Straight mode’ in F1 is a new tool introduced in 2026 to assist drivers during grands prix by utilizing active aerodynamics.

This feature allows cars to shed drag and achieve higher top speeds by adjusting the front and rear wings while in dedicated ‘straight mode’ zones.

In ‘straight mode’, the rear wing opens a slot-gap similar to the DRS system, and the front wing flap elements drop down to optimize performance.

Unlike the DRS, drivers can activate ‘straight mode’ without the need to be within one second of the car in front of them.

This new tool enhances overtaking opportunities and provides an extra level of strategy for drivers in Formula 1 races.
