The controversy surrounding Mercedes’ engine and its unique compression ratio has dominated pre-season discussions. Mercedes managed to run their engine with an 18:1 ratio, exceeding the mandated 16:1 ratio. The FIA’s original testing method only allowed measurements at ambient temperature, a rule that Mercedes could easily follow. An update to regulations now requires testing at cool temperatures until May, followed by checks at 130°C from June 1, prompting changes from Mercedes.
