Toto Wolff had a message of defiance for Mercedes’ rivals in F1 ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix.
Mercedes’ team principal, Toto Wolff, emphasized the need for calm and focused execution as they gear up for a crucial test of their first major upgrade package in Canada against their F1 rivals, stressing the importance of maintaining balance through both success and adversity amidst an intense championship battle.
Wolff acknowledged McLaren’s significant progress in Miami, where they showcased themselves as genuine contenders by scoring a double podium finish and closing the performance gap with Mercedes.
Despite Kimi Antonelli’s impressive performance in Miami, McLaren’s improved form, and Red Bull’s signs of resurgence, the championship battle is heating up, with Ferrari also firmly in contention with Leclerc and Hamilton capable of podium finishes.
Mercedes is introducing its first major development package of the year in Montreal to respond to the advances made by rival teams, aiming to regain momentum and performance in the highly competitive field.
With Mercedes leading the constructors’ championship by 70 points and Antonelli holding a 20-point lead in the drivers’ standings, the pressure to maintain their lead is significant, but Wolff remains cautious, highlighting that the season is still in its early stages and that success will not be determined by a single race weekend.
