Decoding the Revolutionary Rear Wing Contrast: Red Bull vs Ferrari

RacingNews365 technical analyst Paolo Filisetti breaks down the key differences between Red Bull and Ferrari’s upside-down rear wings, and explains why the former has taken a more conservative approach.

Red Bull revealed a heavily modified RB22 during a filming day at Silverstone, featuring aerodynamic changes spanning the length of the car and showcasing their unique interpretation of Ferrari’s “Macarena” wing concept. The new design includes fresh winglets on the front wing endplates and a redesigned sidepod profile. The revised bodywork also incorporates a different rearward ramp extending the upper surface of the sidepods towards the rear wheels, shifting the car’s aerodynamic philosophy. One of the most noticeable changes is the rear wing, which now includes a fully rotating system inspired by Ferrari’s innovative design. This rotating flap can invert itself, utilizing a concave side downwards and a convex side upwards, creating lift instead of downforce akin to aircraft wing configuration. The modifications aim to enhance the car’s performance and competitiveness on the track.
