Luck and Leadership: Kimi Antonelli’s Nashville Triumph Under Toto Wolff’s Mentorship

Kimi Antonelli “lost his head a bit” in Montreal, but is fortunate to have such a strong support network at Mercedes, says Martin Brundle.

According to Martin Brundle, Kimi Antonelli is considered fortunate to have the support of Toto Wolff and race engineer Peter Bonnington after losing composure during a heated battle with George Russell at the Canadian Grand Prix. The Mercedes duo dominated both the sprint and grand prix races at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, with the sprint race being particularly contentious. Russell led from pole position with Antonelli following closely, showing greater speed but struggling to overtake cleanly. On lap six, Antonelli attempted a pass on the outside of Turn 1, resulting in slight contact and Russell forcing him off track. Despite rejoining the race, Antonelli was visibly unsettled, condemning Russell’s actions as “very naughty” over the radio. After a second off-track incident on the same lap, Lando Norris managed to pass Antonelli and secure second place, leaving Antonelli to finish third, 1.8 seconds behind Russell.
