Franco Colapinto’s Ascension: From ‘Slow Burner’ to Alpine Prodigy

Alpine boss Steve Nielsen believes Franco Colapinto will be able to step up in the 2026 season.

Alpine boss Steve Nielsen is confident that Franco Colapinto, despite a slow start, will show improvement in the upcoming F1 season.

Colapinto entered the 2025 season with Alpine after being brought in to replace Jack Doohan, but struggled to make an impact and failed to score any points.

In 2024, Colapinto had a more successful start with Williams, securing points in two of his initial four races, displaying potential with a career-best eighth place finish in Azerbaijan.

Nielsen believes that the change in power unit supply from Renault to Mercedes for the 2025 Alpine car will allow Colapinto to demonstrate more of his talent in the competitive midfield of F1.

With improvements made to the Alpine car, Nielsen expects Colapinto to continue developing and performing better, showcasing his skills and potential as a promising driver on the team.
