Stay Calm and Accelerate: Ferrari Faces Pressure to Avoid Turbulence as Focus Shifts to Team Leadership

Ferrari urged to avoid ‘fiery’ repeat as Fred Vasseur position questioned

Juan Pablo Montoya has urged Ferrari to avoid repeating its “biggest issue” of firing a senior figure should Fred Vasseur struggle this year by allowing Vasseur time to build the team. Vasseur is entering his fourth season as Ferrari team principal after a poor 2025 campaign, where Ferrari failed to secure a victory and finished fourth in the constructors’ standings. The team’s aim is to bounce back at the start of the new power unit regulations, with Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc showing promise in testing the SF-26. If 2026 proves challenging, it’s likely that senior management will consider changes. Montoya emphasized the importance of building rather than destroying, pointing out Ferrari’s tendency to replace top leadership whenever there are setbacks. He stressed the need for stability, teamwork, and avoiding blame games to achieve success, citing McLaren and Mercedes-Benz as examples of solid and united approaches in Formula 1.
