Decoding the Winning Formula: Ferrari’s Strategic Insights into Toppling Mercedes

Ferrari has explained its decision not to pit under the virtual safety cars in the Australian GP.

“Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur explained the decision not to pit either car during the virtual safety car period at the Australian Grand Prix.

Despite the virtual safety car being triggered twice, Ferrari chose not to pit, ultimately affecting the race outcome.

The choice not to pit under the virtual safety cars dropped Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton to third and fourth place, allowing Mercedes to secure a one-two finish.

Vasseur attributed the defeat to the pure pace of the SF-26 compared to Mercedes’ W17, rather than the pit strategy.

He acknowledged that Mercedes had a performance advantage throughout the race and emphasized the need to focus on improving for the next race in China.”
