It has been a disastrous start to 2026 for Fernando Alonso and Aston Martin, in what could be the veteran’s final F1 season.
Despite a challenging start to the 2026 Formula 1 season, Fernando Alonso continues to enjoy strong support from fans, with more than a third wanting him to extend his career.
According to a recent RacingNews365 poll, 37.5% of respondents believe the two-time world champion should persevere in his quest for success in F1, while 29.8% feel that this season should be his last.
An additional 32.7% are undecided, opting to observe whether Aston Martin can improve their performance before making a decision.
Amidst Aston Martin’s dismal start to the season, Alonso, at 44 years old, finds himself in 21st place without scoring any points after experiencing two race retirements.
The team’s struggles have mainly been attributed to reliability issues stemming from their new Honda collaboration, which have hampered the performance of the AMR26 car.
Despite the setbacks, Alonso aims to delay any retirement announcement until September, anticipating significant shifts in performance due to new regulations.
With Adrian Newey taking over as team principal and lead designer, fans are hopeful that the legendary engineer can help unlock the potential of the struggling AMR26 throughout the season.
