F1 drivers fearing ‘awkward’ concerns after private discussions
Alex Albon has expressed concern that F1 drivers are hesitant to make typical defensive moves on track, as they now find such maneuvers “awkward.”
After the significant crash involving Oliver Bearman during the Japanese GP, where his closing speeds caught him off guard, and Franco Colapinto’s Alpine gathered energy heading towards Spoon curve.
The closing speed was approximately 30mph, raising a particular concern highlighted by McLaren team principal, Andrea Stella, during pre-season testing.
Albon further elaborated on how drivers are now rethinking their defensive actions during races, fearing the possibility of causing an unexpected incident akin to Bearman’s crash.
Discussions during drivers’ briefings have centered around this issue, with Albon suggesting potential adjustments to the SM mode for better control and stability on track.
