It was a painful start to life at Red Bull for Daniel Ricciardo 12 years ago.
Daniel Ricciardo’s first race for Red Bull Racing in 2014 presented a dream debut that quickly turned into a heartbreak tale. The Australian driver showcased an impressive performance by qualifying second at his home grand prix, outpacing his four-time world champion teammate Sebastian Vettel. He managed to retain his position throughout the race, seemingly securing his maiden F1 podium. Unfortunately, Ricciardo faced disqualification when it was revealed that his car exceeded the newly implemented 100 kilograms per hour fuel flow limit. The post-race scrutiny discovered the breach, stripping him of his podium finish at Albert Park. Red Bull Racing’s troubles with inconsistent fuel flow sensor readings during the weekend culminated in a decision to rely on their own calculations instead of the FIA-approved sensor. Despite their appeals and claims of compliance with regulations, the International Court of Appeal upheld Ricciardo’s disqualification, marking a significant setback for the team. Kevin Magnussen benefited from the situation, being elevated to second place on his F1 debut, while veteran driver Jenson Button secured his 50th and final career podium with a third-place finish.
