Aston Martin has shared a surprising threat to the health of Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll if they attempt to reach the chequered flag at the Australian Grand Prix.
Aston Martin team principal Adrian Newey has acknowledged that Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll’s participation in the Australian Grand Prix will be severely limited due to concerns about permanent nerve damage. The vibrations from the Honda power unit in the AMR26 are affecting both the car’s chassis and the drivers’ fingers via the steering wheel. The team’s partnership with Honda has struggled to create a competitive car able to safely complete a race distance following a challenging pre-season. Newey confirmed that neither Alonso nor Stroll are expected to finish the race due to safety risks posed by the vibrations affecting the drivers. The team plans to heavily restrict their running until the issue can be resolved in collaboration with Honda. The priority lies in addressing both the mechanical reliability issues and the potential health impact on the drivers caused by the vibrations.
