Alpine Secures Game-Changing F1 Talent in High-Stakes Move from FIA

The Alpine F1 team looks set to bolster its technical staff with a major signing from the FIA.

Alpine is set to announce the signing of Jason Somerville, who will be joining the team after leaving the FIA. Somerville has worked at F1’s governing body as the head of aerodynamics for four years and previously held the same position at F1 itself for almost five years. He confirmed his departure from the FIA on his LinkedIn profile on May 14. Somerville is expected to take on a prominent role in Alpine’s technical management set-up, with the official announcement from the team anticipated in the near future, possibly this week. His move to Alpine marks his return to working for an F1 team since his time at Williams in 2017, having also been at Lotus and Toyota in the past. This career change for Somerville coincides with Alpine’s improved performance in the 2026 season after a challenging campaign in 2025.
