Albon started fourth but fell down the field after choosing to stay on slick tires while others switched to intermediates. He eventually worked his way back up to sixth place before the rain returned. Mercedes’ strategy director, James Vowles, admitted that their decision to stay out initially was a mistake. He explained that once they committed to a strategy, they should have stuck with it. Albon also agreed that their second pitstop for intermediates was one lap too late. Despite the strategy errors, Albon finished in eighth place, which he considered a good result. However, he acknowledged that they still need to analyze and learn from their mistakes to make better decisions in the future.
