Robert Wickens, despite life-changing injuries in a 2018 Indycar crash, was determined to return to racing. His IMSA SportsCar Championship campaign with a Chevrolet Corvette equipped with hand-controls shows his commitment. Wickens, with the support of friends like James Hinchcliffe, never wavered in his goal to get back behind the wheel.
After three years, Wickens made his racing comeback, balancing it with personal milestones like marriage and fatherhood. His journey back to racing began with driving a Hyundai Velostar TCR in 2021, reigniting his passion for competition. Wickens’s successful stint in the Michelin Pilot Challenge paved the way for his current participation in the main IMSA series with a Corvette Z06 GT3.R.
Working with Bosch Motorsport, Wickens uses cutting-edge hand controls to compete in the GT Daytona class, a system hailed as a breakthrough. The electronic braking system developed by Bosch allows Wickens to control acceleration, gear changes, and braking with precision. Wickens continues to impress with his determination and skill, marking a remarkable chapter in his racing career.
