Vasseur: Vegas manhole issues that wrecked Sainz’s Ferrari F1 car "unacceptable"
During the first free practice session of the inaugural race weekend in Las Vegas, Carlos Sainz’s Ferrari suffered extensive damage to the chassis, floor, and power unit after hitting a manhole cover. This incident caused a red flag and the session was abandoned while all manhole covers were checked. Alpine’s Esteban Ocon also suffered damage and had to replace his chassis. The team principal of Alpine, Frederic Vasseur, expressed his frustration and called the situation unacceptable. The incident disrupted the first day of running but fortunately occurred on a relatively safe part of the track. Ferrari concluded that Sainz’s seat had also been damaged. Vasseur and McLaren team boss Zak Brown both emphasized the need to address the issue and find a solution, rather than rushing to make judgments or suggesting corners were cut.
