The Alpine Formula 1 team is announcing Steve Nielsen as its new team manager, a paddock veteran with a long history in the sport starting from 1986 when he was a truck driver for a Formula 1 catering firm. Nielsen has worked with various F1 teams like Lotus, Tyrrell, Honda, and Arrows, but his most notable work was with Benetton alongside Flavio Briatore. Briatore, who serves as the executive advisor for Alpine F1, sought Nielsen as a reliable replacement following Ollie Oakes’ unexpected departure from the team in May after the Miami Grand Prix. Nielsen, having previously been sporting director for Toro Rosso and Williams, will now take on the significant responsibility of team manager for Alpine, overseeing the team’s operations and reporting to Briatore.
