Alpine driver Franco Colapinto caused the second red flag of Formula 1’s Imola Grand Prix qualifying due to a crash during Q1. Colapinto, in his 2025 season debut with Alpine, lost control at Tamburello’s exit after touching the grass, spinning into the gravel trap and hitting the barriers. Despite the impact, Colapinto confirmed he was okay and climbed out of the car, unlike the earlier incident involving Red Bull’s Yuki Tsunoda at Villeneuve chicane. Both Colapinto’s and Tsunoda’s crashes resulted in grid penalties, impacting George Russell and Andrea Kimi Antonelli in Bahrain. Following Colapinto’s accident, Liam Lawson missed Q2, with Oliver Bearman feeling disappointed as his lap time was not reinstated after the red flag. Colapinto replaces Jack Doohan at Alpine, with delays in Q2 due to repairs at Tamburello’s tyre barrier. Photos from Imola GP – Practice & Qualifying are available for viewing.
