Sainz explains F1 rear tyre woes in Italian GP after losing to Red Bull duo
Carlos Sainz started in pole position and successfully defended his position against Max Verstappen into the first chicane at Monza. Verstappen attempted several passes but Sainz held strong until lap 15, when he locked up and allowed Verstappen to overtake him. This battle with Verstappen caused Sainz to struggle with tire wear and Sergio Perez also passed him to secure a Red Bull 1-2 finish. Sainz described the race as very tough but was proud of his efforts to defend against the Red Bulls. Despite the result, Sainz believes that Ferrari’s improved performance shows that they are the best of the rest and it’s a big step forward for the team. Sainz also had a close and intense battle with teammate Charles Leclerc, narrowly edging him out for a podium finish.
