Piastri frustrated after McLaren F1 pace proves “really good surprise”
The qualifying session was disappointing for the Woking team, causing the Australian driver to start in 18th position. However, he made progress during the race and even temporarily held third place. A clash with Lewis Hamilton resulted in a premature pit stop and a later pit stop under green flag conditions, ultimately dropping him down the order. Despite this setback, he managed to finish in 10th place and earn the bonus point for the fastest lap. The driver believes that a different strategy could have yielded better results, especially considering the timing of the safety car. He also mentioned that the pace of the car was better than expected. The contact with Hamilton on lap 16 resulted in punctures for both drivers, but he doesn’t believe it significantly impacted their race. Overall, he feels that the team deserved more than a 10th place finish.
