At the Monaco Grand Prix, McLaren’s Lando Norris claimed pole position by beating home favorite Charles Leclerc as Mercedes faced a qualifying disaster.
Norris secured pole position by setting a new track record at the 3.3km venue with a lap time of 1m09.954s, outpacing Leclerc by 0.109s.
The Briton’s pole was his first since the Australian Grand Prix and came after edging out Leclerc and Oscar Piastri in a thrilling qualifying session.
Lewis Hamilton qualified fourth for Ferrari, but may face penalties for impeding Max Verstappen in Q1, who ended up in fifth place.
Isack Hadjar impressed by securing sixth for Racing Bulls, while Fernando Alonso and Esteban Ocon rounded out the top eight.
In Q1, Andrea Kimi Antonelli’s Mercedes crashed out, adding to the drama of a crucial qualifying session that highlighted the challenges of the Monaco street circuit.
