Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko has accepted defeat in the Formula 1 world championship as Max Verstappen’s exit from the Austrian Grand Prix by Andrea Kimi Antonelli dealt a blow to their title hopes.
With Verstappen now trailing championship leader Oscar Piastri by 61 points, Marko believes the gap is too substantial for Red Bull to close in the remaining 13 rounds, unless significant improvements are made.
Marko stated that upcoming updates might not be enough to bridge the gap and acknowledged the challenge of overcoming the 60-point deficit.
Christian Horner, Red Bull boss, conceded that the championship has turned into a two-horse race between McLaren and Red Bull, emphasizing the need for the team to focus on one race at a time and strive for better performance.
Horner highlighted the team’s efforts to improve their competitiveness and adapt to the changing regulations, recognizing McLaren’s strong performance but expressing confidence in Red Bull’s capabilities over the next few races.
