FIA Superlicence: Verstappen to pay over €1m in 2024
Max Verstappen will reportedly be charged over €1.2 million for the superlicense he needs to compete in Formula 1 next year. This is due to the fact that he won 19 out of the 22 races in the 2023 season, resulting in an increase in the license cost for every point scored. However, Verstappen is not responsible for paying the fee, as his team, Red Bull, will cover the expense. It is unclear whether Verstappen’s teammate, Sergio Perez, or other drivers will have to pay their own fees. Despite his dominant performance, Verstappen has criticized the high costs associated with the superlicense, considering it “absurd” and not consistent with other sports. Fortunately for Red Bull, the driver salaries and fees are not included in the FIA’s budget cap. The FIA superlicense is a mandatory requirement for any driver competing in Formula 1, and it is awarded by the F1 governing body based on certain criteria.
