Clash of Titans: WEC Sticks to 2026 Calendar as Le Mans Challenges F1 in Barcelona

The 2026 World Endurance Championship calendar will consist of eight races, maintaining the same events as in previous years, excluding Silverstone, and with a clash between the Le Mans 24 Hours and Formula 1’s Barcelona race. The season will kick off with an 1812km race in Qatar on 28 March, one month later than in 2025 due to Ramadan.

Imola will host the first European leg, followed by Spa leading up to the Le Mans 24 Hours in mid-June, coinciding with the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix. The season will then continue with races in Brazil and Austin before concluding with events in Fuji and Bahrain on 7 November. WEC boss Frederic Lequien expressed satisfaction with the calendar, highlighting the unique challenges presented by each circuit.

Despite efforts to include Silverstone, the traditional British Grand Prix venue, on the calendar, the WEC prioritized maintaining stability with the existing roster. This decision aligns with the strategy to consolidate and stabilize the series following years of expansion, emphasizing the importance of continuity for partners, participants, and venues. Both ACO President Pierre Fillon and FIA Endurance Commission president Richard Mille emphasized the significance of stability in sustaining the growth and success of the Hypercar class and the endurance racing series as a whole.
