Ahead of the British GP at Silverstone, the possibility of a British rider joining the MotoGP grid remains uncertain, possibly years away due to challenges in British racing, according to TNT MotoGP pundits Neil Hodgson and Michael Laverty. Currently, Jake Dixon is the only British rider competing in a GP series higher than Moto3, sitting third in Moto2 standings behind Arón Canet and Manuel Gonzalez before the British GP. Hodgson and Laverty express doubts that Dixon, at 29 years old, may have missed the opportunity to transition to MotoGP, suggesting teams prefer younger talents. Despite Dixon’s skill and ability, his age may hinder his chances in MotoGP, as factory teams seek fresh young talents like Pedro Acosta or David Alonso. The future of British riders in MotoGP seems uncertain within the next five years, as Laverty’s efforts with his team MLav Racing have yet to produce a rider ready to make the leap to the top flight.
