Jorge Martin got the Qatar MotoGP Grand Prix event started in the best way possible by leading the opening test
The first free practice session at the Lusail International Circuit was cautious due to the dusty track caused by heavy rain the night before. Lap times were about eight seconds slower than expected, but Jorge Martin eventually took the lead with a time of 1:58.235s. As the session progressed, the track improved and Enea Bastianini became the first to go below the 1:58s mark. Fabio Di Gianantonio set two consecutive fastest laps, but Martin reclaimed the top spot with a time of 1:56.393s. Johann Zarco finished second, followed by Francesco Bagnaia in third. Honda struggled, with Joan Mir being the fastest Honda rider. Alex Marquez and Augusto Fernandez both crashed during the session.
