The Las Vegas Grand Prix got off to a rough start with Carlos Sainz hitting a loose drain cover and causing significant damage to his car, resulting in the cancellation of the opening practice session. The second practice session, FP2, was delayed and started late due to repairs being done on the circuit to prevent a similar incident. Charles Leclerc was the fastest driver in FP2, with a lap time of 1:35.265s. Carlos Sainz, after quick repairs, returned for FP2 and finished in second place, followed by Fernando Alonso. Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas rounded out the top five. Reigning champion Max Verstappen only managed sixth place. Esteban Ocon’s car was rebuilt after picking up damage in FP1, and he finished 16th in FP2, just a tenth slower than his teammate Pierre Gasly.
