After Honda left F1 in 2008, Ross Brawn saved the team for just £1 and renamed it Brawn GP. In 2009, the team had an incredible season, winning both the drivers’ and constructors’ championships. Button tried to leave the team because it seemed like it might not exist, but no other contracts were available. Despite a late-season surge from Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel, Button maintained his lead and became the world champion. Brawn’s leadership and the team’s ability to adapt the car were key factors in their success. Brawn would later become Mercedes, and Vettel went on to win four consecutive world titles with Red Bull.
