Sainz beats Verstappen to claim home pole for Ferrari
In a thrilling qualifying session at Monza, Carlos Sainz produced a stunning lap to snatch pole position from Max Verstappen by a mere 0.013s, much to the delight of the passionate Tifosi crowd. This is Sainz’s first pole at Monza and only the fourth time this season that a non-Red Bull driver has topped qualifying. Charles Leclerc secured a strong third place for Ferrari, with just 0.067s separating the top three. George Russell impressed with a great lap to put his Mercedes on the second row ahead of Sergio Perez’s Red Bull. Alex Albon continued to shine for Williams, claiming a superb sixth place. Oscar Piastri secured seventh, followed by Lewis Hamilton in eighth for Mercedes, Lando Norris for McLaren, and Fernando Alonso for Aston Martin completing the top-10. Yuki Tsunoda and Liam Lawson narrowly missed out on Q3, taking 11th and 12th respectively, with Nico Hulkenberg in 13th. Valtteri Bottas struggled and ended up in 14th, while Alpine had a disappointing session with Pierre Gasly and Esteban Ocon both being eliminated in Q1. Gasly and Ocon will start in 17th and 18th respectively, ahead of Kevin Magnussen’s Haas and Lance Stroll. Aston Martin driver, Stroll, who only completed his first competitive lap in FP3, ended up being the slowest of all and will start in 20th.
