George Russell has labelled the 2023 Dutch Grand Prix as a “missed opportunity” after Mercedes fumbled their strategy in the early stages of the race.
Despite initially leading the race, George Russell’s chances were hindered as he pitted late due to worsening track conditions, causing him to drop to the back of the grid. Russell expressed frustration over the team radio, questioning how they had made a mistake in their strategy. After the race, Russell explained that Mercedes had anticipated the rain lasting only a short time, leading to the late pit stop. He acknowledged that they had missed a significant opportunity and that they would analyze their decisions. Unfortunately, Russell’s chances for a top finish were further dashed when he picked up a puncture while battling with Lando Norris. Despite the disappointing outcome, Russell recognized the speed of the car and found some positives to take away from the race.
