Legendary F1 team boss Eddie Jordan has omitted Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso when choosing two drivers he feels could challenge Max Verstappen.
Max Verstappen is widely considered to be the best driver in Formula 1, having just enjoyed a dominant year with three consecutive drivers’ titles and 19 victories in the most recent season. There is a heated debate about who could challenge Verstappen if they had the right equipment, and Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso are obvious choices due to their experience and history in F1. However, Eddie Jordan believes that Lando Norris and Charles Leclerc would be the only driver pairing capable of taking on Verstappen if he didn’t have a top team. Jordan argues that Hamilton and Alonso, despite being well-deserved champions, may struggle to keep up with Verstappen due to their advanced age. On the other hand, Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko acknowledges the exceptional talents of Leclerc and Norris but points out their weaknesses in consistency. Marko also believes that Verstappen has not yet reached his full potential and will continue to improve, and it is Red Bull’s responsibility to provide him with a car as good as the one he had in 2023 to maintain his status as the benchmark.
