Christian Horner says he saw shades of the old Daniel Ricciardo during his “remarkable” performance at the F1 Mexico City Grand Prix.
Daniel Ricciardo delivered a stellar performance in qualifying, securing fourth place on the grid and surpassing Sergio Perez’s Red Bull. Despite a red flag causing some setbacks, Ricciardo managed to finish seventh, marking AlphaTauri’s best result of the season. His strong comeback after a hand injury caught the attention of Red Bull team principal Christian Horner, who praised Ricciardo’s outstanding performance and likened it to his previous form. Ricciardo himself described the Mexico City Grand Prix as a dream weekend. His impressive showing will undoubtedly put more pressure on Perez, whose home race ended in a collision with Charles Leclerc. However, Red Bull has consistently stated that Perez’s seat is secure as he is under contract until 2024.
